APPLICATIONS ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED

Thank you for your interest in serving with SLCOSAR. We’re not accepting applications right now, but we encourage you to check back for future opportunities.

TIME TO SERVE

200–400 volunteer hours a year.
Training, missions, and equipment readiness take commitment alongside work and family.

FIELD READY

Prepare for demanding conditions.
Steep terrain, heavy equipment, darkness, and changing weather call for fitness and sound judgment.

TEAM FIRST

Reliable people make the difference.
Communicate clearly, follow direction, welcome feedback, and serve others with compassion and professionalism.

MINIMUM MEDICAL CERTIFICATION
Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification or higher is required to be considered for the team.

BRING YOUR EXPERIENCE. KEEP LEARNING.

Beyond the required medical certification, these backgrounds can help you build a strong foundation for search and rescue.

  • Mountain travel
Hiking, climbing, skiing, and moving safely through backcountry terrain.

  • Navigation
Route finding, trip planning, weather awareness, and self-sufficiency.

  • Patient care
Build on your required WFR or higher certification with experience caring for people in outdoor or emergency settings.

  • Technical skills
Rope systems, water rescue, snow and ice, or related rescue training.

  • Clear communication
Listening, sharing information, and staying calm under pressure.

  • Reliable teamwork
Showing up prepared, following direction, and treating people with respect.

GET READY WHILE YOU WAIT

  1. Build your foundation
Practice navigation, develop outdoor judgment, and maintain your fitness.

  2. Plan for the commitment
Consider how 200–400 volunteer hours a year could fit with work and family.

  3. Keep your experience handy
Record your medical certification, relevant training, outdoor experience, and service.
